Two functions: Gubałówka is the view of the Tatras, easy and familial in two hours — Kasprowy is inside them, with a true summit, queues and fickle weather. Families with small children or short time: Gubałówka suffices beautifully — the able early riser on a clear day: Kasprowy is irreplaceable. Both is possible: Kasprowy by morning, Gubałówka at sunset.

Gubałówka is Zakopane's family balcony: a venerable funicular (1938) climbing straight from Krupówki's head 300 metres up in minutes — the summit (1,126m) opening the complete Tatra panorama: the peaks as a serrated wall across the valley with Giewont, the Sleeping Knight, cross on chest at its centre — the view every town postcard is sold from. The top is a complete mountain fairground: Górale grill restaurants, a famous summer gravity slide, a ropes garden, a gift market — and the paved ridge path walks the crest kilometres toward the timber village of Chochołów one way and Butorowy the other (or simply the funicular back). It is the easy mountain opposite Kasprowy's true one: wheelchairs and prams ride it effortlessly — and its sunset over the reddening Tatras is the evening's greatest cheap ticket.
