A resort town in Miyun, about 120 km north-east of Beijing, built from 2010 at the foot of the Simatai Great Wall in the style of the water towns south of the Yangtze. It opened in 2014 and is run by the same company as Wuzhen, which is why it is called Wuzhen's northern twin. Its canals, stone bridges, grey-brick houses, inns and craft workshops spread over about nine square kilometres; in the evening the lanes are lit and boats glide along the canals, and from the town a cable car and paths climb to the Simatai Great Wall, which also opens for evening visits. Tickets to the town cost about CNY 140, and it is open from 9 am to 10 pm, last entry 9 pm, while the Simatai Great Wall has its own ticket with day and evening sessions, per visitor guides. Pork is common in the town's restaurants, so ask about ingredients.
