A mosque and shrine on the west bank of Larnaca Salt Lake, holding the tomb of Umm Haram bint Milhan, may God be pleased with her, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and wife of the companion Ubada ibn al-Samit; Turkish tradition calls her «Hala Sultan». Accounts say she came with the first Muslim expedition to Cyprus, led by Muawiya, may God be pleased with him, between 647 and 649, fell from her mount near the lake, died and was buried on this spot. The shrine around the tomb was built around 1760, and the Ottoman-style mosque with its domes and minaret was completed in 1817. The complex also has an old cemetery, lodgings and an ablution fountain among palms and cypresses, and is a listed ancient monument. Entry is free, per visitor guides. Dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered, take off your shoes to go in, and don't take photos inside the mosque. The best view is from the lakeside road, especially in winter when the lake fills and the flamingos arrive.
