Half Moon Bay is a crescent beach on Antigua's east coast, with soft white sand, turquoise water and low green hills around it. It is one of the island's most beautiful and quietest beaches, away from the big hotels. The bay lies on the Atlantic side, but its headlands and a reef at one end break some of the surf. Islanders come at weekends, and an old hotel building sits on the hill above. The area stays natural with little building. You walk the long sand, watching white surf break in the middle, with calmer water at the northern end near the rocks. From the hill above, the whole crescent shows in blue and white. The bay is 19 km in a straight line south-east of St John's and 6 km south of Devil's Bridge. Entry is free. The surf is strong in the middle and there are no lifeguards, so swim only at the calm end and do not leave belongings alone.
