A coastal town in the north-west of Tabuk province near the head of the Gulf of Aqaba, facing the Jordanian city of Aqaba across the border. A calm shore stretches in front of it, with the mountains of Sinai rising on the far side of the gulf, so mornings and sunsets turn into a panorama of mountains and water. The corniche has a promenade, lawns, seating and sculptures, and the clear water suits swimming and snorkelling. Along the coast near Haql, the wreck of a grounded ship lies close to shore and has become one of its best-known sights. Haql has a hot desert climate, averaging about 24 °C over the year, with little rain, most of it in winter, so winter and spring are the best seasons to visit. The visit is free. Haql has no airport; the nearest is Prince Sultan International Airport in Tabuk, and the drive from Tabuk is long, so allow a full day.
