A small park south of Lake Naivasha that differs from Kenya's other parks in that you can explore it by bike or on foot among giraffes, zebras and buffalo, as big predators are largely absent. Its name comes from a narrow passage between two high volcanic cliffs. It is known for volcanic rock towers, the best known being Fischer's Tower, and cliffs where vultures nest. Its scenery is said to have inspired the artists of The Lion King. The highlight is a descent with a local guide into the lower gorge, where you walk between sculpted rock walls, hot springs and small waterfalls. At one edge of the park stands the Olkaria geothermal power station, its steam rising from the ground. Rent a bike at the gate, carry water, and avoid the gorge in the rainy season because of the risk of flash floods. The fee is USD 50 per non-resident adult since October 2025, per visitor guides.
