Hercegovačka Gračanica is a Serbian Orthodox monastery in Trebinje, southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, on Crkvina Hill above the town, about 1 km from the centre in a straight line. The hill has wide views over Trebinje and has drawn visitors through the ages. The medieval Church of Saint Michael, founded by the Serbian King Milutin, once stood on the site. The present monastery was built as a close copy of Gračanica monastery in Kosovo, following the last wish of the poet and diplomat Jovan Dučić, who wanted to be buried on a hill above Trebinje in a church «like the one in Kosovo». His remains were moved here from the United States in 2000. The church's walls are banded in stone and red and yellow brick, crowned by several domes topped with golden crosses, set in a wide stone square with cypress trees and a separate bell tower beside it. In the evening the church is lit in gold. Visitors walk the square and admire the church from outside, looking out over Trebinje and the Trebišnjica valley from the hilltop. Modest dress is expected when going inside.
