At the edge of Puerto Iguazú the Iguazú River runs into the Paraná, and three countries face each other across the water, Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, in a region of some 900,000 people. On the Argentine bank stands a small obelisk painted light blue and white, the colours of the Argentine flag, facing Brazil's green and yellow obelisk and Paraguay's red, white and blue one across the rivers. Around it are a square, gardens and viewpoints over the two rivers, stalls of crafts and souvenirs, and paths along the bank. The view explains the whole region's geography: Ciudad del Este in Paraguay ahead, Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil to the right. The best time is late afternoon, as the sun sets over the rivers. It is free and close to the town centre, so you can walk or take a short taxi ride.

Each country has an obelisk on its own bank; the Argentine side is free and close to central Puerto Iguazú, while the Brazilian side is a ticketed complex with an evening show.
