A section of the Great Wall at Huanghuacheng village in Huairou, north of Beijing, known as the «Lakeside Great Wall», because a man-made reservoir flooded part of it, so the wall seems to dive into the water and climb out again up the hills on the far shore. Steep steps lead up to a high watchtower looking over the lake and the wall snaking across the ridges, and boats on the lake show the submerged stretches up close; it draws far fewer visitors than Badaling and Mutianyu. Tickets are about CNY 45, boats CNY 25 to 55 depending on the type, and it is open from 8 am to 5 pm, per visitor guides. The drive from Beijing takes about one and a half hours.

Huanghuacheng village, Jiuduhe town, Huairou District, about 60 km north of central Beijing
Part of it is restored and part left wild, with very steep steps, so wear good shoes; it is much quieter than the famous sections.
