A small village perched on a high cliff above the sea on Yeongdo island, its low white houses strung along the edge behind a short wall and a narrow path. It was a fishing village, then filled with Korean War refugees and became a crowded, poor quarter. From 2010, residents and local artists repaired it and painted its walls, and it has become one of the best-loved walks in Busan. Its name means «white rapids», after the foam of the streams that run down the mountain into the sea. With its white houses and the blue water below, it is often compared to Santorini. Among the houses are small cafés, bookshops and craft shops, many with windows looking out on the ships anchored in the bay. The upper path runs in front of the houses, and coloured steps lead down from it to a coastal walkway at water level, ending in a short tunnel through the rock that is the village's best-known photo spot. You can walk one way along the top and back along the bottom. People live here, so keep quiet and stay out of the yards. Entry is free, and the best time is before sunset.
