Ibitipoca State Park was created on 4 July 1973 on 1,488 hectares of mountains in Minas Gerais, 3 km from the village of Conceição do Ibitipoca; its Tupi name means «burst mountain». Visitors are capped at 1,000 a day. It has three main trails: the Circuito das Águas, about 5.2 km past pools and small falls; the Pião trail, about 9.5 km to the Pião peak; and the famous Janela do Céu trail, 16 km there and back, open to only 240 walkers a day who must start between 7:00 and 9:00. Tickets are R$34 and R$17 reduced; the park opens Tuesday to Sunday and on holidays 7:00-17:00, and parking is R$36 or R$46. Arrive early on holidays, as the daily cap can be reached.
