Ilha da Pedra Furada, the «Pierced Rock» island, is a small island in Camamu Bay off the Maraú Peninsula in southern Bahia, and a usual stop on the boat tours that leave the village of Barra Grande to explore the islands of the bay. Trips leave from the Barra Grande pier at prices from about fifty reais per person and stop at the island for around an hour, on a route that takes in other islands and villages around the bay. The island is privately owned and charges a small entry fee, while its beach remains open to the public. The stop allows a swim in the calm water of the bay and a stroll on the sand, taking in the tropical scenery of Camamu Bay, the third-largest bay in Brazil, with its forests, mangroves and scattered islands. Bring cash for fees, confirm the return time with your boat, and go on a calm, sunny day.
