A military, aviation and space museum at Pier 86 on the Hudson River on Manhattan's West Side, set aboard the Second World War-era aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, now a National Historic Landmark. The museum opened on 3 August 1982. Warplanes and helicopters from different decades line the carrier's broad flight deck, and a dedicated pavilion houses the Space Shuttle Enterprise, used in the shuttle programme's test flights. You can explore the ship's passageways, bridge and flight deck. On the same pier are the submarine USS Growler, which you can go inside, and a supersonic Concorde, along with interactive exhibits on flight, the sea and space that suit children and families. Tickets cost $38 for adults, $28 for children aged 5 to 12 and $36 for seniors and students, and it is open 10:00–17:00, until 18:00 at summer weekends, per the museum's official site. Last entry is an hour before closing.
