Isla del Cerrito is a horseshoe-shaped river island where the Paraguay river meets the Paraná, at the eastern tip of Chaco province near Corrientes and Resistencia. It is named after a small hill rising fifteen to twenty metres above the river, a rarity in these low plains full of lagoons and marshes. Fishing and tourism are its main activities, making it one of the province's leading destinations: sandy river beaches, campsites among the trees, a small inn, a broad river where cargo ships pass slowly, and fishing for the river's famous big fish. The small village at its centre is quiet, with green streets and simple houses. Visiting is free; it is reached by car from Resistencia by road and bridge, good for a full day on the river from Corrientes or Resistencia.
