Isla Victoria is the largest island in Lake Nahuel Huapi, 31 square kilometres in area, protected by Nahuel Huapi National Park since 1934. It was shaped by the last ice age and was once home to indigenous groups who left rock paintings in its caves. It is divided into three zones, two strictly protected and the central one open to visitors. Boats reach it from Puerto Pañuelo on the Llao Llao peninsula, and on the island trails run through dense forest to beaches and viewpoints. Most trips combine it with the Los Arrayanes forest on the Quetrihué peninsula in an outing of about six hours. The trip is by boat with tour operators, paid, plus the national park fee and a port fee when boarding. Bring warm clothes; the lake is cold and the wind strong.
