A bus from the Plaza de Armas station to Santiponce, or about twenty minutes by car. The journey is short, but budget a full half day with the visit and the return.
Spring and autumn are far better. The site is almost entirely open with no shade, and Seville's summer heat is severe enough that the hours themselves are shortened. If you come in summer, go at opening time.
The amphitheatre and the open streets usually appeal, but the site is large and needs a long walk without shade. Take water and hats and avoid the hot hours.

A Roman city on the edge of the town of Santiponce, about nine kilometres from Seville. It was founded in the second century BC and was among the earliest Roman settlements on the Iberian peninsula, and it produced the emperors Trajan and Hadrian. What distinguishes the site is how much of it is exposed and walkable: paved streets on their original grid, the foundations of large houses, and mosaic floors preserved in place under protective canopies. The amphitheatre is among the largest built in the empire and you can walk down into its arena. The site gained a further round of fame after being used as a filming location for internationally known television, which has increased visitor numbers in recent years. Access is by bus from Seville or by car in about twenty minutes. The site is almost entirely open with little shade, so avoid the middle of the day in summer and take water and a hat.
