La Concepción is Spain's loveliest tropical garden with its most romantic founding: an 1850s couple — she Malagueña, he a plant-loving German consul — turned their estate's hills into a forest of continental wonders: palms of five continents, a giant rubber fig whose aerial roots carry its legend, bamboo, orchids and lotus pools wound by endless shaded paths. Its jewel is the "Greek temple": a Doric belvedere at the hill's edge opening the complete distant panorama of Málaga — city, harbour and mountains in one canvas, by its photographers' consensus the city's finest outside view. On the northern edge (bus 2 or ten minutes by car) — a shaded half-day that is Málaga's true summer refuge, its winter green unwilting.
