Jermuk Waterfall is one of Armenia's loveliest falls, also called «Mermaid's Hair» for the way its water runs over the rocks in long strands. It lies in the town of Jermuk in Vayots Dzor Province, on the Jermuk River, which feeds the Arpa, and it is a top stop in this mountain town. Sources put its height between about 68 and 72 m, with Armenian Geographic giving about 68 m. Its water comes from springs before falling to the river. The town itself is known for hot springs, and people have long come here to relax and take the mineral waters. You see the falls from below, by the road and viewing spots near the valley. Spring and summer bring green scenery, while autumn adds warm colours. There are walks nearby, and the falls often make a short stop before sampling mineral water in town. It is 500 m in a straight line from central Jermuk and 30 km from Yeghegnadzor, though the drive is longer as it climbs into the mountains. It gets very cold at this altitude in winter, and snow can affect the roads, so ask first. Wear suitable shoes, as the path may be damp near the water.
