The Jesús María estancia was founded by the Jesuits in 1618 on farmland north of Córdoba to help fund, with the other estancias, their university in the city, and it is part of the World Heritage Site UNESCO listed in 2000. Its stone buildings stand around a wide courtyard with an adjoining church, in a large park at the edge of town. The building now holds the National Jesuit Museum, with collections of archaeology, coins, art and tools from the colonial era that show how the estancia ran on farming and cattle. The museum also looks after the old Sinsacate staging post on the Royal Road, a few kilometres away. Entry is free, and the museum and park open Tuesday to Sunday and holidays from 10:00 to 18:00, with guided tours at 11:00 and 15:30. It pairs well with the nearby Caroya estancia on a day trip from Córdoba.
