The emblem of Guiyang, a wooden pavilion of stacked curving roofs standing on Aoji Rock in the middle of the Nanming River; it was first built under the Ming Wanli Emperor in the late 16th century, its name refers to excelling in the imperial examinations, it has burned and been rebuilt several times, and the present building dates from 1909. It has been a national protected monument since 2006. Visitors reach it across the arched stone Fuyu Bridge, and inside are stone and wood carvings and works of calligraphy and painting by noted figures; under the Qing it counted among Guiyang's «eight views», and at night it glows with lights over the river. Entry is free; the pavilion is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 6 pm and closed on Mondays, while the surrounding area stays open until 10 pm, per visitor guides.
