An old Buddhist temple on Jinshan hill in Zhenjiang, on the bank of the Yangtze, founded between 323 and 325 under the Eastern Jin and renamed many times over the centuries; among its best-known Song-era monks was Foyin, a friend of the poet Su Shi. Its halls and covered walkways climb the slopes of the hill to the top, where the many-storeyed Cishou Pagoda stands, visible from afar. The place is famous from the Chinese «Legend of the White Snake», which tells how floodwaters engulfed Jinshan, and it lies within Jinshan Park, a 5A scenic area. Park tickets cost CNY 65 in spring and autumn and 50 in winter and summer; it is open from 8 am to 6 pm, ticket sales stop at 4.30 pm and the temple closes at 5 pm, per visitor guides. The city's best-known dishes often include pork, so ask about ingredients.
