Joffre Lakes is a provincial park about 35 km east of the town of Pemberton in British Columbia, Canada. It holds three glacier-fed lakes, Lower, Middle and Upper, known for their bright turquoise colour. The park was created in 1996, when the Joffre Lakes Recreation Area was raised to park status. Rock flour in the water reflects blue and green light and gives the lakes their colour. Its popularity has grown sharply in recent years, so visitors often need to book a free day pass in peak season. You see a clear turquoise lake ringed by dark spruce forest, with a white glacier and sharp rocky peaks behind. The trail climbs through the trees to the upper two lakes, small waterfalls tumble over stepped rock between them, and the shrubs turn yellow in autumn. It is about 23 km from Pemberton in a straight line. The trail to the Upper Lake takes about two hours going up; check the pass rules before you go.
