A long beach south of Pattaya, running about six kilometres beyond Pratamnak hill, calmer and cleaner than Pattaya's main beach, so residents and families prefer it. Behind it runs a palm-shaded coast road lined with condominium towers, hotels of every class, and pavement restaurants and cafés. The sand has deckchairs and umbrellas for hire, fruit sellers and grilled seafood, and the sea here is a water-sports centre: water-skiing, parasailing, jet skis and kitesurfing in the right season. The southern end is quieter and less crowded, with Ko Larn on the horizon. The beach is free. The area has many halal restaurants, as Jomtien is one of the Pattaya districts most used to Arab families. Take care when renting jet skis: photograph the machine before riding and agree the price in writing, as complaints of invented damage are well known. Swimming is safe for most of the season, but keep clear of the boat lanes marked by ropes. The best times are early morning, when the beach is quiet, and sunset. It is about a quarter of an hour from central Pattaya by shared taxi.
