Three bays

One of Phuket's most famous and easiest viewpoints: a hilltop terrace on the coast road south of Kata, looking over three successive bays separated by two green headlands, little Kata Noi in front, then Kata, then long Karon behind, with turquoise and blue water stretching to the horizon. The spot is a small shaded plaza beside the road, with stalls selling drinks, chilled coconuts and souvenirs, and a sign for photos. Most visitors stop here on the way to Promthep Cape at the island's southern tip, so the two combine in one sunset drive. Viewing is free and always possible; the best times are just before sunset or in the morning, when the light is soft and crowds thin. A token parking fee is sometimes charged. May to October is the Andaman rainy season, when the sea is rough and boat trips may be cancelled. A short stop of a quarter to half an hour, suitable for all ages, easy by car or taxi from Kata and Karon beaches.
