With honesty's caution: the descending trail to Gąsienicowa valley and its lake is reasonable for walking-used feet in serious shoes (two hours down to Kuźnice through the valley) — but Giewont with its chains, and Świnica, belong to the experienced strictly: lightning and fall deaths are a yearly fact. The mountain rule: not knowing the way cancels the way.

Kasprowy is the true Tatras by cable car: the historic 1936 cars (Poland's first cableway and a national engineering pride) climb from Kuźnice in two stages to 1,987 metres — the summit literally on the Slovak border: you stand a foot in each country with the granite chains in full circle, the glacial valleys (Gąsienicowa, Cicha) opening below on both sides. From the top the serious trails branch (Giewont and Świnica for the equipped and accustomed) — the ordinary visitor well served by the summit platforms, Poland's highest meteorological observatory and its café: standing above the cloud sea asks not one step further. Its rules are strict: tickets run in hourly slots that sell out summer and winter — book online days ahead and ride the first morning cars (cloud closes the scene by noon and wind stops the cables) — with ten degrees below the town as rule, not exception.
