Keerimalai Springs is a mineral water spring on the northern coast of the Jaffna Peninsula in Sri Lanka, at the town of Keerimalai about 25 km north of Jaffna. Its water has long been known for curative properties. In Tamil, Keerimalai means mongoose hill. The spring lies beside the old Naguleswaram Hindu temple, and many people come to bathe in its fresh water. The fresh spring water gathers in a broad stone tank right at the edge of the sea, ringed by curved stone steps that bathers walk down into the water. Only a low stone wall separates the tank from the ocean, so swimmers can see the waves just beyond. A paved promenade along the shore next to it looks out over the blue sea. Visitors swim in the tank set aside for bathing, or sit on the steps and gaze at the sea. Respect the local character of the place and dress modestly, and early morning is the quietest time.
