The most famous view on Nusa Penida island, south-east of Bali: a green rocky headland plunging into the sea in the shape of a dinosaur's back, which people call the T-Rex, above a small cove of white sand and turquoise water pounded by the Indian Ocean. The view from the clifftop has become the symbol of all of Nusa Penida. Most visitors are content with the view from the top, which is worth the trip on its own. Going down to the beach means a very steep path along the edge of the cliff, with steps, ropes and wooden rails, about half an hour to an hour down and the same up, suitable only for the fit. Swimming in the cove is dangerous because of strong waves and currents. Entry is about twenty-five thousand rupiah, plus an island fee of about twenty-five thousand per adult. Getting there takes a fast boat from Sanur of about forty minutes, then a car on narrow roads, so most people come on an organised full-day tour. Bali's tourist levy, one hundred and fifty thousand rupiah per foreign visitor, is separate. Take the first boat in the morning to beat the heat and the crowds, and bring good shoes and water. The sea between Bali and Nusa Penida can be rough, so choose a reliable boat company.

It is very steep and tiring, and injuries have happened, so it does not suit children or anyone afraid of heights. The clifftop view alone is what most visitors come for; do not swim in the cove.
