A small forested island in the middle of the wide Barito River, home to hundreds of free-roaming long-tailed macaques, reached by klotok boat on a short ride from Banjarmasin, often as part of the floating-market trip. At the jetty the monkeys greet you at once, hoping for food, and the forest has a short wooden walkway and a small Chinese shrine where visitors offer bananas to the monkeys in an old tradition. Proboscis monkeys are sometimes seen in the forests along the river. The fee is a token one, with the boat separate. The monkeys are very bold and snatch bags, glasses and phones, so carry no visible food and keep things closed. A fun short visit for children, with care. Combine it with the floating market on the morning tour and follow the guide's instructions.
