Kep National Park is a small forest on a range of hills behind the coastal town of Kep in southern Cambodia. It suits walkers, with an easy loop under the trees and views down over the sea and islands. Visitors often come after a meal at the crab market, looking for shade and cooler air away from the shore. The park was established in 1993 and covers 11.52 sq km. It includes a small mountain range, with views of Phu Quoc and the Bokor range to the south and west and across islands of the Vietnamese marine reserve of Kien Giang to the east. Side trails branch off its main track. The main loop runs for about 8 km on a broad, fairly level dirt track, among tall trees that drop their leaves on the ground. From viewpoints you see Kep town below and a blue coast stretching far away. Steeper side trails climb, including the «Stairway to Heaven» towards a pagoda and sunset rock. You may spot monkeys in the trees. The entrance lies off the main road near Kep town, about 2 km in a straight line from its centre and about 19 km from Kampot. The loop takes two to three hours, so bring water and suitable shoes and start in the morning before the heat. Sources give hours from 8:00 or 9:00 to 17:00, so do not linger in the forest after sunset.
