Pattaya Bay

A green hill between Pattaya Bay and Jomtien Beach, home to the city's most famous viewpoint: from its platform you see the whole arc of Pattaya Bay with its towers and boats, and islands on the horizon. Next to it is a monument to Prince Chumphon, founder of the modern Thai navy, and the famous big Pattaya sign on the slope. At the other end of the hill is Wat Phra Yai, a temple with a golden seated Buddha some eighteen metres tall overlooking the city, reached by steps guarded by dragon statues, with another view over Jomtien. The hill is free and always open, with parking and small shops. The best times are sunset, when the sun goes down over the bay, and then night, when the city lights up below. The easiest way up is by taxi or ride-hailing app, as the road climbs. Combine the two spots in one visit: the bay view, then the Big Buddha.
