Kinkon Falls are waterfalls in the Pita prefecture of Middle Guinea, about 80 metres high. They sit at the bottom of the Kokoulo valley, in the heart of the Fouta Djallon highlands. Above them a small dam has formed a calm lake among the hills, so a visit takes in both the lake and the falls. Water flows all year, but the falls are at their best in the rainy season, above all in August and September, when the river runs high. The dam was built on the river for hydropower, and its reservoir has become part of the scene. You see a broad lake of calm grey water scattered with red and brown rocks and ringed by wooded hills. At the dam's edge are a concrete channel and an iron stair. Down in the valley the water spills over pale rocks among green trees and runs between big stones in the river. They are about 6 km from Pita town in a straight line. Keep to permitted areas near the dam works. The path to the falls is slippery, so wear suitable shoes.
