Kololi Beach is a broad Atlantic beach in the resort town of Kololi near Serrekunda. Bijilo Forest surrounds it, and hotels and restaurants line the area nearby. It is one of The Gambia's best-known beaches with visitors from Europe, and a good place to walk, relax and watch the sunset. The main hotels sit along «The Strip», a short road leading to the beach and the hotels of the Senegambia area, lined with restaurants. The tourist police watch its entrance. Most visitors come from Britain, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, above all during the European winter. You see wide pale sand, palm trees and thatched shades in front of the hotels, and mostly gentle waves. At sunset the sun sinks into the sea and its light turns the wet sand gold. Young people play football on the sand, and runners pass along the shore morning and evening. Bijilo Forest Park is about 1 km away in a straight line, and central Serrekunda about 5 km. Swim only where there are lifeguards, as currents can be strong. People may offer you services, so decline politely if you do not need them.
