Konorchek Canyon, also called Suluu-Terek, is a maze of red sandstone and clay canyons at the eastern end of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range, west of the Boom gorge on the road from Bishkek to Lake Issyk-Kul. There is no gate or ticket: you walk in up a dry riverbed. Seasonal streams that run only after rain cut the canyons, and wind shaped the soft rock into towers and walls banded red, orange and cream, in places only about 1.5 m apart. Suluu-Terek means beautiful poplar in Kyrgyz, reputedly after a lone silver poplar on the floodplain. Tour operators bill it as Kyrgyzstan's Grand Canyon, and Bishkek geology students have come here on field trips. From the parking area the trail follows the riverbed past weathered shapes signed the Clay Museum to a junction named Central Square, about 3.5 km and an hour in. One fork climbs 1.8 km to the Panorama viewpoint, the main route's high point at about 1,890 m; the other leads 2.5 km, with short scrambles of up to 3 m, to the Fairytale Canyons. The trailhead is about 135 km by road from central Bishkek, two hours' drive: a dirt track leads west off the Balykchy highway by the Red Bridge over the Chu and across the railway. There is no water and almost no shade, and summer heat is fierce, so come in spring or autumn. Day tours pair it with the Burana Tower, 46 km west-north-west as the crow flies, or Lake Issyk-Kul, whose western end at Balykchy is 43 km on by road.

Off the Bishkek–Balykchy highway by the Red Bridge, Boom gorge
Yes: minibuses from Bishkek to Balykchy, Cholpon-Ata or Karakol pass the turn-off, so ask to be dropped at the Red Bridge. There is no timetable for the way back, so flag down a minibus heading for Bishkek and carry small notes; a recent guide quotes about 4,000 som one way for a taxi from Bishkek.
It is not required, but signs are few beyond the trailhead board and forks are easy to miss, so without a guide carry an offline map and start back with plenty of daylight left. Snakes live here, so keep to the paths, and avoid the riverbed in or after heavy rain, when it can flood or turn to mud.
