Kribi Public Beach is a sandy beach in the town of Kribi on the Gulf of Guinea in southern Cameroon, where the Kienké River meets the ocean. Kribi is known for its long beaches and fresh seafood and is one of Cameroonians' favourite coastal escapes. People come to this beach above all to watch the sunset. Kribi lies about 150 km by road south of Douala and has some 55,000 residents. It has a German lighthouse built in 1906 during the colonial era. Nearby are a modern deep-water port and the end of the oil pipeline from Chad. Many locals work in fishing. You see wide golden sand, short rolling waves and dark rocks at the water's edge. At sunset the sun sinks into the sea between orange clouds, reflected on the wet sand. Colourful wooden fishing boats rest on the beach, and stalls sell grilled fish and coconuts. It is about 1 km from central Kribi in a straight line and about 8 km from Lobé Falls. Swim only where there are lifeguards, and ask about currents. Try grilled fish at the local stalls.
