Kumbhalgarh Fort is a huge fortress on a summit in the Aravalli Hills, known as the «Great Wall of India». Broad stone walls with round bastions run over the dry hills, and at the top of the fort a white palace looks out over valleys and forest. It was built in the 15th century for Rana Kumbha, ruler of Mewar, and its name means «Kumbha's fort». Its wall runs 36 km without a break, one of the longest continuous walls in the world. King Maharana Pratap was born here. In 2013 it was listed among the Hill Forts of Rajasthan UNESCO World Heritage Site. You climb to the palace at the top to see the wall run over the hills, walk a stretch of the wall and visit the temples inside. A sound-and-light show is held in the evening. It is about 64 km in a straight line north of Udaipur and makes a day trip from there by car.
