The main site of the 1999 Kunming World Horticultural Exposition, opened on 1 May that year on about 220 hectares of green hills in north-east Kunming, next to Golden Temple Park, with plants covering about eighty per cent of the ground. It has five large pavilions, among them the International Pavilion, the China Pavilion and the Great Greenhouse, outdoor gardens from thirty-four Chinese provinces and regions and thirty-two countries, and seven themed gardens for vegetables and fruit, bamboo, bonsai, tea, medicinal herbs, trees, and rare flowers and rocks. It has been redeveloped in stages since 2019. Entry has been free since 28 December 2025, while the «99 Time Garden» section has its own ticket, 49 yuan when charging began, and it is open from 8.30 am to 5 pm, per visitor guides. Kunming has many Hui Muslim restaurants under the halal sign.
