A private nature park in cloud forest on the eastern slopes of Poás volcano, best known for five waterfalls in a row on the La Paz River, reached on trails, stairways and hanging bridges over the gorge, so you stand close to the water tumbling between rocks and green plants. Before the falls the trails pass varied gardens: a hummingbird garden where dozens of colourful birds whirl around the feeders, a large butterfly dome, orchids and tropical plants, and areas for rescued animals that cannot return to the wild. The best-known fall, the big La Paz waterfall, can also be seen from the public road at the bridge. The park and the area were damaged in the 2009 earthquake and rebuilt, and it has a restaurant with a view and an upscale lodge. The steps are many and damp, so wear comfortable shoes. It is often combined with Poás volcano in one day.
