Lago di Braies is a natural lake in the Prags Dolomites of South Tyrol, northern Italy, in the Braies valley, about 18 km northwest of Cortina d'Ampezzo in a straight line. In German it is called the Pragser Wildsee. It has been nicknamed the «Pearl of the Alps», and as its fame grew the crowds became excessive, reaching 17,000 visitors on a single summer day in 2020. Car access has therefore been restricted in summer since 2023. The lake's name first appears in records in 1296. Clear emerald-green water stretches beneath a towering rock wall, the Seekofel, ringed by pine forest. On the north shore a wooden boathouse fronts a row of wooden rowing boats, and in the early morning the mountains are mirrored in the still water. An easy path circles the lake in about an hour, and rowing boats can be hired in summer. Arrive by public bus or early in the morning, and check the booking rules in the busy season.
