Lago Espejo, the «Mirror», is a glacial lake near Villa La Angostura, the first lake of the famous Seven Lakes Road for those coming from the south and the warmest of them. It is named for its still, clear water, which reflects the surrounding forests and mountains like a mirror, fed by snowmelt streams from the peaks around. Its shores alternate dark volcanic-sand beaches, reed beds and steep rocks, ringed by dense forest. There are two public beaches: one at its southern end where the road begins, and another about five kilometres north at Bahía del Guardaparque, with a free campsite; both have parking, toilets, a small shop and kayak rental. A viewpoint on the road gives a lovely view over the whole lake. Visiting is free; summer suits swimming and paddling, and autumn turns the forests red and gold.
