Lago Fagnano, also called Lake Cami, is the largest lake on the main island of Tierra del Fuego, 645 square kilometres in area and about 98 kilometres long from east to west, mostly in Argentina with its western end in Chile, and 449 metres deep. It lies in a basin formed along a great geological fault, so its southern shore is steep and its northern one gentler. Travellers reach it from Ushuaia on National Route 3, which crosses the Garibaldi Pass, with a famous view over Lake Escondido and the forests, then drops to the lake's eastern end at the small town of Tolhuin. The shore there has spots for picnics and fishing and a wide view of water and mountains. It is free, a full-day trip from Ushuaia or a stop on the road towards Río Grande. The wind is strong and the water very cold all year round.
