Lago Falkner is one of the lakes of the famous Seven Lakes Road between San Martín de los Andes and Villa La Angostura; the road runs right along its shore, so it appears suddenly with its broad blue water and forested mountains. Cerro Falkner, Cerro del Buque and Cerro Alto rise around it, and lenga and coihue forests cover its shores. It is fed by a short river from neighbouring Lake Villarino, and its water flows on to Lake Nuevo and into the Río Negro basin. On its west shore are a campsite and a small inn, the only places to stay on its banks, and quiet pebble beaches for picnics, paddling and fishing. Stopping is free, and it is one of the loveliest photo stops on the road, especially in the morning when the water is still and in autumn when the forests turn colour.
