Lake Lácar is a glacial lake in the Andes at 630 metres, 55 square kilometres in area, 167 metres deep on average and 277 metres at its deepest. The town of San Martín de los Andes sits on its northeastern shore, while the rest of its banks are forest and mountain with hardly any settlement. Like many Argentine Andean lakes, it drains west through Chile to the Pacific. The town shore has a pier and promenade, from which boats run to Quila Quina beach and other beaches and coves, and people hire kayaks and paddleboards. Famous viewpoints such as Mirador Bandurrias look down on the lake. The lake lies in the Lanín National Park area, and the town beach is free to reach. The water is cold even in summer, and the wind picks up in the afternoon.
