Lake Lolog is a long glacial lake 12 kilometres from San Martín de los Andes, filling a narrow valley that runs at right angles to the Andes, wrapped in dense Patagonian forest of coihue, ñire, raulí, lenga and cypress. Part of it lies inside Lanín National Park. It is much quieter than nearby Lake Lácar: a small holiday village of the same name sits on its lower eastern shore, with gravel lanes, beaches of small stones and calm water for kayaking, fishing and summer swims. Its outlet is the Quilquihue river. It is reached by gravel road from San Martín de los Andes or Junín de los Andes, and there is no fee to visit the shore. Bring what you need, as services are few.
