Meliquina is a glacial lake in southern Neuquén, filling a wide valley that runs at right angles to the Andes, surrounded by Patagonian forests of lenga and coihue. Its southern shore lies inside Lanín National Park. On its open eastern shore, a small holiday village named after the lake grew up in the early twenty-first century, with wooden houses, lodges and campsites, drawing those looking for quiet away from the bustle of San Martín de los Andes and Bariloche: beaches for summer swims, kayaking, fishing and forest paths. Visiting is free, reached by two gravel roads linking it with San Martín de los Andes and Bariloche. Bring what you need, as services are limited.
