Lagoa Azul, the Blue Lagoon, is not really a lagoon but a basin of calm, clear seawater on the north coast of Ilha Grande, sheltered from the waves by small islets, so the water looks a transparent blue-green with the bottom in plain view. It is the island's best-known and cheapest boat trip: visitors snorkel among dense shoals of small, colourful fish that come close to swimmers. Boats usually stop on the way at other nearby beaches and pools. Tour boats and schooners leave Vila do Abraão in the morning and return in the afternoon. The water is calm and good for families, but the place gets crowded with boats on summer holidays, so ordinary days are quieter. Do not feed the fish.

Yes, the water is calm and shallow in many parts; the trip from Abraão is about R$70, though it gets crowded on summer holidays.
