Garopaba Lagoon, also called Lagoa da Barra, is a coastal lagoon in the Encantada district of Garopaba, south of Florianópolis, whose outlet meets the sea between Ferrugem and Barra beaches, among the finest in the area. The lagoon is one of the best spots for mullet fishing in May and June and for shrimp between November and December, so life around it follows the seasons of the coast's traditional fishing. It suits quiet paddling, birdwatching and sunsets, and pairs with a day on nearby Ferrugem beach. The whole area lies on a coast that protects right whales in winter.
