Lagoa do Portinho is a freshwater lagoon on the road between Parnaíba and Luís Correia on the coast of Piauí, partly ringed by sand dunes, so that some guides count it among the «Lençóis Piauienses», akin to Maranhão's famous dunes. It is protected as an Area of Relevant Ecological Interest. The lagoon gets busy on holidays and weekends, when banana-boat and jet-ski rides are on offer, and simple bars and restaurants line its shore. Quad-bike tours leave from the lagoon across the sand towards the Dunas do Coqueiro, including a short half-day version. Most cars can reach the dunes on a paved road from Parnaíba. Go late in the day for sunset over the sand, on weekdays to avoid crowds, and check conditions, as the water level can change. It pairs with a visit to the Parnaíba Delta.
