Lagoa Feia is a natural lake in the municipality of Formosa in Goiás, about five kilometres from the town centre and some eighty kilometres from Brasília, on a plateau at around 900 metres. The lake is fed by the Josefa Gomes stream and smaller brooks, and gives rise to the Preto River, a tributary of the Paracatu, which flows into the São Francisco. It is one of the landmarks of the town's origins: the first settlement, Arraial de Couros, grew up on its springs in the eighteenth century before becoming Formosa. Locals come to the lake for outings and time on its banks, and it makes a good stop on a day trip from Brasília combined with the famous Itiquira waterfall in the same municipality. Choose the dry season from May to September for easier roads and clear skies.
