Laguna Capri is a small forest lake on the trail toward Mount Fitz Roy, about two hours' walk from El Chaltén, and one of the area's best rewards for the least effort: on a clear day the granite towers of the Fitz Roy massif rise straight behind its water. The path starts at the end of Avenida San Martín in the village; the first kilometre climbs steeply, then the gradient eases through lenga forest to a fork where a side path leads to the lake. The round trip is about eight kilometres, three to four hours, easy to moderate. Many hikers carry on toward Laguna de los Tres, a much longer and harder day. The Los Glaciares park fee is charged at the El Chaltén trail portal, 50,000 pesos a day for foreigners from June 2026, bought online. The weather changes fast, so bring layers and a windproof, and set off early for reflections on calm water.
