Laguna de la Niña Encantada, the «Lagoon of the Enchanted Girl», is a small, clear lagoon in the Los Molles valley on the road to Las Leñas, about sixty kilometres from Malargüe. Its transparent emerald and turquoise water is fed by underground rivers, so the bottom and its green weed show clearly, ringed by dark volcanic rock, grasses and small trees. Its name comes from an old local legend of a chief's daughter who loved a young man of her own people; she was to be married to another chief's son to seal a peace, so she fled with her beloved on a stormy night and the two vanished at the lagoon. Locals say her image appears on the water on full-moon nights. A short path with boardwalks and railings circles the lagoon, where waterbirds can be seen. A small fee is paid at the entrance, and swimming is not allowed. It pairs easily with Pozo de las Ánimas on the same road.
